Granit Xhaka may have left Arsenal in the summer but he remains an interested spectator and he couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at one of his former team-mates after the 6-0 win over Lens.

Mikel Arteta’s side blew their French opponents away at the Emirates Stadium, with a five-goal first half capped off with another goal in the second half to secure safe progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

But Xhaka, who was formerly captain of Arsenal, could not resist having a pop at the player he used to sit next to in the Emirates Stadium dressing room.

Commenting on the player in question’s Instagram, Xhaka wrote: ‘Did you play?’

The target of the joke was left back Oleksandr Zinchenko, who had actually started the match before being taken off at half-time with Arsenal 5-0 up.

No doubt Zinchenko took the comment in jest having sat next to Xhaka in Arsenal’s dressing room last season.

Fans absolutely loved Xhaka’s comment, though.

One wrote: ‘I miss Xhaka so much in this team.’

A second said: ‘Xhaka is a Gunner forever!’

A third fan posted: ‘Miss Granit for real.’

That player was Oleksandr Zinchenko, but it was all in jest as the two players get on so well
