Tottenham: Postecoglou praises resilience following Kane’s departure
Tottenham could miss out on prolific Porto striker Mehdi Taremi as AC Milan close in on a late summer deal. The Iranian was reportedly earmarked as a potential replacement for Harry Kane, although Spurs may be forced to focus their attention on alternative targets for the remainder of the week.
Taremi was playing his domestic football in Iran as recently as 2019. But the frontman has taken the transition to Europe in his stride across the four years since, impressing in one season with Rio Ave before signing for Porto.
Now into his fourth campaign with the Portuguese giants, Taremi has put together a stellar record of 80 goals in 151 first-team appearances. The 6ft 1in target man is also a regular scorer at international level with Iran.
Reports in Portugal earlier this month suggested that Spurs were keeping tabs on Taremi in a bid to offset Kane’s move to Bayern Munich.

A focus on younger alternatives, such as Gift Orban and Brennan Johnson, could see Taremi slip through the net, as Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the 31-year-old is of serious interest to AC Milan.
The Rossoneri are in the midst of negotiations with Porto, and having seen an initial £13million bid rejected, there is reportedly a general feeling at the San Siro that the deal will close for £17m.

Porto are believed to be reluctant to let their star striker leave in the same window that has seen key man Otavio sign for Al-Nassr. But with only one year remaining on Taremi’s contract, this summer could be their final chance to cash in.
With an attacking vacancy still to be filled, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly ramping up his efforts to sign Nottingham Forest star Johnson. The 22-year-old is valued at £50m by the Tricky Trees.
As things stand, Tottenham can at least take comfort in claims that they will have a free run at the youngster for the remainder of the window. Chelsea are said to be put off by the price tag, and Brentford have walked away after seeing a £43m bid rejected.
On top of recruiting a new forward, Spurs are still desperate to offload fringe players before Friday’s deadline. Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are among those who could depart.
