Football Digest: Analysing Man Utd's failed recruitment
As the Manchester United takeover saga continues to rumble on, Qatari bidder Sheikh Jassim has reportedly decided on whether or not to comment publicly amid his ongoing battle to buy the club against Sir Jim Ratcliffe. There have been few updates in recent months despite supporters holding a sit-in protest at Old Trafford on Saturday, calling for the Glazer family to sell to Jassim.
Despite the United faithful clearly growing frustrated at the lack of progress following their 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, neither Jassim nor Ratcliffe have made public pleas to the Glazers to speed up the process after both submitting bids worth upwards of £5billion – though not at the £6bn valuation that the Glazers currently hold.
It does appear that Jassim especially will not call on the current owners publicly to speed up the process, as Fabrizio Romano has said that the Qatari bidder currently has no intention on commenting on anything regarding the sale.
Perhaps disappointing news for United supporters, but Jassim must adhere to the process being overseen by the Raine Group – who are currently attempting to bridge the gap in valuations but so far to no avail.

There had been fresh claims last week that Jassim had won the race to take over from the Glazers, but reports appear to have been premature and the suggestion that a new owner could be in place by the end of the calendar year was deemed optimistic.
Though Jassim has refused to comment on the frustrating process, that has not stopped plenty of United icons such as Rio Ferdinand – who was previously adamant a sale was nearing completion – speaking out as he once again called on the Glazers to sell up.

“So much of what is wrong with Manchester United starts and ends with the Glazer family,” he wrote for The Mirror. “Of course, there are people working in executive roles at United who have also failed this iconic football club in recent years because they simply haven’t been up to the job. But is it really any surprise that United are in a state of limbo when the long-term direction of the club is so uncertain?
“It is almost nine months since the Glazers put up a ‘For sale’ sign at Old Trafford. Yet no one knows whether they actually have any intention of cashing in or staying put. A few weeks ago, I was told that a sale was imminent – and absolutely nothing materialised.
“The only crumb of comfort for United supporters is that neither Sheikh Jassim nor Sir Jim Ratcliffe have called the Glazers’ bluff and walked away. So I’m still hopeful of a deal being struck.”
