Rob Edwards was full of pride after his Luton Town held Liverpool to a draw at Kenilworth Road.
Luton were minutes away from an even better result – a first home league win and first clean sheet of the season – after Tahith Chong finished a brilliant counter attack to put them ahead in the 80th minute.
They were pegged back by Luis Diaz’s equaliser and forced to settle for a point but Edwards said: ‘Of course you want to win the game. But we got close.
‘There’s a sense of what if, if only, but the overwhelming feeling is pride not disappointment. We know we need to get more points.
‘We haven’t got enough but we have some and have taken some from an outstanding football team.’

Edwards also felt his showed side how they can defy their doubters and stay up this season.
‘The starting team probably cost four, five million quid,’ he laughed. ‘It’s amazing. Starting a Premier League game against Liverpool. We’ve got the belief.
‘People out there will say what they want about us. That’s cool. Maybe people will now think they’ve got something, they’re alright.
‘They’re fighting. They’re difficult to beat. They’ve got some good players. We showed that tonight.’
Jurgen Klopp was unimpressed with some of his Liverpool side’s first-half defensive work.
‘We had 0.0 counter pressing in the first half,’ he said. ‘That’s something I take personally. I told the boys that’s certainly not ok.’
Nor did he like Luton’s defending at set-pieces which he described as ‘wrestling.’
Edwards argued: We’ve got to try and be physical and make sure they don’t get a free header. They’ve got some big old boys coming up for set-pieces. We’ve got to make sure we don’t roll out the red carpet and say ‘there you go Virgil, have a free header.’’
