Premier League clubs are ‘monitoring Mason Greenwood’s loan spell at Getafe’ as Spanish side are keen to sign exiled Manchester United forward but face competition from LaLiga rivals
- Mason Greenwood joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United in September
- The former England international has scored four goals in 11 games
- It’s ridiculous to see Steve Cooper under pressure at Nottingham Forest. He’s been the best since Brian Clough – It’s All Kicking Off
A number of Premier League clubs are monitoring Mason Greenwood’s performances at Getafe, according to reports in Spain.
The 22-year-old was arrested on charges of attempted rape and assault in January 2022 and was suspended while on full pay by Manchester United.
The charges, however, were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February after ‘key witnesses’ withdrew their involvement.
Following a drawn-out internal investigation, United announced in August that Greenwood would not play for them as they were prioritising the ‘welfare, wishes and perspective’.
The England international sealed a loan move to Getafe the following month and has attracted interest from a number of English teams.

According to Spanish outlet AS, several scouts from Premier League clubs have watched Greenwood in action at the Estadio Coliseum.
No Premier League club showed interest in Greenwood in the summer, but he attracted enquiries from clubs in Italy and Turkey.
The forward has scored four goals and provided three assists in 11 games for Getafe across all competitions, helping the Azulones up to eight place in LaLiga with 19 points in 14 games.
On Saturday, Greenwood scored with a spectacular effort from outside the box to level the score against Almeria in Getafe’s 2-1 win.
And Getafe are interested in extending his stay in Spain, by either securing a longer loan deal or signing him permanently.
Earlier this month, it was reported Getafe executives were eager to open negotiations with United to prolong Greenwood’s spell with the club. According to The Athletic, a meeting between Getafe and United has been pencilled in for April.

But according to The Sun, Getafe could face competition from Valencia and Real Sociedad, who are both keeping tabs on the United loanee.
Greenwood’s £75,000-a-week – a portion of which is paid by Getafe – contract with United runs until 2025, but a return to Old Trafford appears improbable, given the level of backlash the club faced when it planned to reintegrate him in the squad.
Greenwood has settled in Spain with his partner and baby daughter and The Athletic reported this week that the former England international has been taking Spanish lessons to communicate with his teammates more effectively.
A product of United’s academy, Greenwood has played 129 times for the club and has scored 35 goals with his last appearance coming in the 1-0 win over West Ham on January 22, 2022.
