‘I guess he’s always been not just publicly but privately always been very complimentary about me and my work. Not directly to me but I’ve found out through other sources, which coming from someone like him, I have great respect for.’

Tottenham took an early lead through Son Heung-min, but he scored an own goal shortly afterwards. Phil Foden then put City ahead before an excellent strike from Giovani Lo Celso pulled Tottenham level.

Jack Grealish restored City’s lead prior to Dejan Kulusevski’s late equaliser for Tottenham.

City appeared set to get a fourth goal in stoppage time as Erling Haaland looked to play in Grealish, but referee Simon Hooper controversially gave City a free-kick further back for a foul on Haaland.

That prompted an angry response from City players, especially Haaland himself, who was livid.

Postecoglou had promised prior to the game that he wouldn’t deviate from his usual attacking style of play. That was what transpired as Tottenham and City were involved in an excellent game.

Although Tottenham have only taken one point from their last four Premier League games, Postecoglou will undoubtedly be very pleased with some aspects of his team’s performance against City.

Postecoglou added that he has heard that Guardiola has often been complimentary of his work

Tottenham are currently in fifth place in the table with 27 points from their first 14 games.

They are back in action on Thursday when they host West Ham.
