Newcastle United have been given a huge boost after the news that a top PSG star is set to miss their Champions League clash in Paris next week.
The Magpies are hopeful of making it to the knockout stages of Europe’s elite competition on their first appearance since 2003-04 – with Eddie Howe’s men just three points off top spot in Group F.
The Premier League outfit are technically bottom of the standings in what is considered the ‘Group of Death’ after one win – a 4-1 victory against PSG – one draw and two losses.
But Newcastle remain in touching distance ahead of their second game against the Parisiens and they may fancy their chances even more after news that PSG have suffered a huge injury blow ahead of the game.
Centre-back Marquinhos has sustained a hamstring blow – though it is a minor one and should only rule him out for 10 days.

The Brazilian picked up the problem on international duty with his country, after wearing the captain’s armband. He was substituted at half time for team-mate Nino.
After the game, Marquinhos had admitted it would be difficult for him to play against title rivals Monaco on Friday night.
‘I felt a strain on my hamstring during a play, it was painful, that’s why I came off,’ he said.
‘I underwent initial examinations, and it was painful during stretching. I will undergo further tests in Paris.
‘We have to wait. I’ll arrive in Paris on Thursday; it might be a bit tight for Monaco.

‘I don’t know how I’ll feel in a few days. I hope it’s not serious, and I can get back on the field as soon as possible.’
And now it appears his chances of facing Newcastle are now non-existent.
In an official statement, PSG said: ‘Victim of a small injury to his right hamstring, Marquinhos will remain in treatment for 10 days.’
His injury comes as PSG attempt to hold off a title challenge from Nice and Monaco at the top of the table – and Marquinho’s absence comes at a bad time ahead of such a huge clash against the latter.
