Ten Hag says 'Man Utd in heart' of matchwinner McTominay
Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood has spoken out for the first time after scoring his first goal for Getafe, having joined the La Liga club on a temporary basis on transfer deadline day. The 22-year-old struck in the Spanish side’s 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo on Sunday evening as he reflected on the match with an update on social media.
In an all-action first half, Borja Mayoral had given the visitors Getafe the lead within two minutes of kick-off but Jonathan Bamba pegged Greenwood’s side back. Getafe then went down to 10 men when Domingos Duarte was sent off in the 29th minute, but four minutes later Greenwood put his side ahead once again – before Jorgen Stand Larsen’s equaliser before half-time.
Greenwood’s effort came after a long ball was fired up to Mayoral who brought it down well, the striker powered and then breezed past two Celta defenders before playing the ball across to the back post where Greenwood was waiting to fire home.
Greenwood took to Instagram following the draw, writing: “Happy to score my first goal for @getafecf amazing team spirit to come away from the game with a point.” Captioned alongside three photos from the game, including two of Greenwood celebrating with his new team-mates.

His strike was the first time that Greenwood had found the back of the net since January 2021 for United, in a 3-0 win away to Brentford, though that could prove to be his final goal for the Red Devils despite only leaving on loan. The club confirmed that he will depart Old Trafford after a lengthy investigation that concluded in August.
Greenwood is attempting to rebuild his footballing career after his arrest on charges of attempted rape and assault last year. The charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February.

Greenwood has made five appearances so far for Getafe, including two starts, having already registered an assist for his new team while also being handed a lifeline in his international career.
Despite playing once for England he appears unlikely to return under Gareth Southgate, but he also qualifies for Jamaica and their head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson hinted at a potential call-up in the future.
“We would like to have the best talent on our team,” Hallgrimsson said when asked about the prospect of Greenwood playing for Jamaica. “If he gets his former fitness and former levels, then for sure he would have that level to help Jamaica.”
