This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

It is derby time in Manchester, as Manchester United host Manchester City for this enticing renewal of Premier League rivalries.
Manchester United vs Manchester City
City and their depth of world-class talent are once again fighting at the Premier League summit, sitting in third with the opportunity to cut league-leading Tottenham’s advantage to two points with a victory here. However, back-to-back defeats against Wolves and Arsenal – the latter a fellow title challenger – dampened the mood in Pep Guardiola’s camp before the pause for international football. That dour outlook will have perhaps eased after a 2-1 win over Brighton and a 3-1 victory at Young Boys in the Champions League, as last season’s treble winners aim for three wins on the spin with a visit to their noisy neighbours at Old Trafford.
Manchester United vs Manchester City
So long in City’s shadow across recent years, United’s start to the season has befitted their second-rate status in the reckoning between the two Manchester sides. Four wins and as many draws before the international break was hardly enough for a top-four challenge, never mind a first top-flight title since 2012. Erik ten Hag’s men have somewhat improved since, though, defeating struggling Sheffield United 2-1 to back up their late rescue act against Brentford before the October internationals. Unlikely victors in this exact meeting last season, United will be desperate for a derby-day victory to kickstart their season.
