Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund were given a rough time by German press after Manchester United’s defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday. The duo were unable to turn the dial in their side’s favour as they crashed out of the Champions League, and indeed European competition altogether.
Garnacho started on the left against the Bavarian giants, with Hojlund entrusted to lead the line. It turned out to be a miserable night for both, as Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the game to leave United bottom of Group A.
One particular incident involving Garnacho, which saw him shove Coman into an advertising board, went down particularly badly with German newspaper Bild, who labelled the teenager a ‘hooligan’.
The news outlet are famed for their savage post-match player ratings, with a score of one representing the best and six the worst.

Garnacho was handed a four for his broadly ineffective display, but the Argentina international got off lightly compared to Hojlund. Having been a passenger for much of the contest, the Dane was the only player on the pitch to be slapped with a dismal score of five.
The Champions League had previously been Hojlund’s favoured hunting ground this season, with his haul of five goals currently putting him joint-top in the competition alongside Alvaro Morata and Manchester City ace Erling Haaland.

But the £72million United star will not get the opportunity to add to his tally after Erik ten Hag’s group stage campaign ended with a whimper. Hojlund will instead turn his attention back towards getting off the mark in the Premier League, where he has racked up 798 minutes of action without a single goal.
It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old will be thrown in from the start against Liverpool on Sunday. Ten Hag is working with limited options as both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have started the campaign in dreary form.
“[Hojlund] hasn’t scored yet in the Premier League,” United legend Paul Scholes told TNT Sports. “It’s a big concern where the goals are going to come from – you expect a lot of product from your wide players, the Antonys, the Garnachos but they’re quite selfish players.
“They’re thinking about scoring themselves, their own goals, Rashford isn’t in form this season, I know he was ill tonight but he’s not been firing either.”
