Man Utd star Antony returns to UK to face police over allegations he attacked ex

Manchester United forward Antony has flown back to the UK from Sao Paulo to face allegations that he attacked his ex-girlfriend.

The 23-year-old has strenuously denied Gabriela Cavallin's allegations of domestic violence, threat and causing bodily injury during their relationship over the past year. His return to talk to police comes after United acknowledged the allegations and agreed for the Brazilian to delay his return from the recent international break.

Antony was spotted in Sao Paulo airport to board a connecting flight in Spain ahead of a meeting with police in the coming days, according to The Sun. The former Ajax forward, who cost the club £85million, was accused by Cavallin of attacking her in a Manchester hotel on January 15.

Antony was tearful in a TV interview in which he denied all the allegations against him, having issued a statement over his position at United.

It read: “I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me.

"This was a mutual decision to avoid distraction to my team-mates and unnecessary controversy for the club. I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth.

"I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible."

Cavallin, 22, also alleges that Antony assaulted her on May 20, the same day he was part of the United team that beat Bournemouth 1-0.

Police in both Sao Paulo and Greater Manchester have been investigating the allegations, which include Cavallin claiming that a punch to the chest caused damage to a breast implant.

Antony has made 48 appearances and scored eight goals since his 2022 arrival at Old Trafford, helping them to League Cup glory last season, but underwhelming many fans given his vast price tag.

Since he was dropped, United have lost to Brighton and Bayern Munich, before beating Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Next up is another visit of Crystal Palace, with Ten Hag also without Getafe loanee Mason Greenwood and out of favour Jadon Sancho.
