Man Utd ‘set’ for Greenwood transfer windfall to boost Sir Jim Ratcliffe budget

Mason Mount slammed by former Man Utd star after poor start – 'Nowhere to be seen'

Mason Greenwood wants to call time on his short-lived Manchester United career by turning his season-long loan at La Liga outfit Getafe permanent next year, according to reports. But Getafe are said to face heavyweight competition from elsewhere in Spain as Greenwood makes his mark overseas.

United shipped Greenwood off on transfer deadline day after reportedly making a forced U-turn on his reintegration due to the mass backlash on social media.

Richard Arnold insisted he was satisfied Greenwood was innocent of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour, charges which the 22-year-old denied and were dropped in February of this year.

But the Red Devils stated they didn’t expect him to represent the club again after his January 2022 arrest, vowing to help him resume his career away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood has been warmly welcomed in Madrid, scoring one goal and providing an assist in his first five Getafe appearances.

And he is reportedly looking to make his Spain stay permanent beyond the current campaign.

According to The Sun, Greenwood is loving life after fearing his career was over and hopes to remain at Getafe.

But other suitors are circling, which could tempt Greenwood to move on from the 11th-place La Liga club next summer.

The Mirror claim that Sevilla are among several La Liga sides interested in signing the former United No 11 at the end of the season after making an early impression.

Given Greenwood’s contract expires in 2025, United would expect to receive a transfer fee for the young forward if he was to complete a permanent move.

And while outside circumstances and having just one year left on his deal would reduce his valuation, it would bolster the budget for the next stage of Erik ten Hag’s project.

The Dutchman is set to receive increased backing as early as January once Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes a deal to buy 25 per cent of the club.

Man Utd will get Old Trafford expansion under Sir Jim Ratcliffe[LATEST]

His £1.4billion agreement with the Glazer family is expected to hand his sporting control and the most voting power of all United’s shareholders.

It will mean he will be free to use the money he invests in his childhood club on what he wants, which will reportedly be a squad and staff overhaul.

Ratcliffe has helmed a sporting empire with INEOS, making an impact in cycling, football and sailing, among other avenues.

And Ten Hag will be optimistic about filling the void Greenwood has left with the backing of the 70-year-old.
