Mason Mount and Harry Maguire could feature in Manchester United’s Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace after recovering from injury.
Manchester United news, exclusives and analysis
United begin their defence of the League Cup on Tuesday night – the first of two clashes against Palace at Old Trafford in the space of five days, with a Premier League match to follow on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been struggling for form and fitness of late, with six players currently on the sidelines, including Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw.
That’s not to mention Antony and Jadon Sancho who are not part of the squad while they deal with off-pitch matters.
It will be a relief to the manager then that two stars are back in full training and in line to feature against the Eagles.
Mount and Maguire were spotted in training with the first-team on Monday, the former having not featured for his new club since the second game of the season.
The midfielder picked up a thigh injury during the defeat at Tottenham in August and will hoping to make a big impact after struggling in his first matches for the club since signing from Chelsea over the summer.
Maguire meanwhile, has missed the last two matches with fitness issues, which resulted in Jonny Evans making his first start for the club since 2015 against Burnley on Saturday.
Ten Hag could give the under-fire England defender a rare start should he wish to rotate his side, though Raphael Varane is also in contention to play having come off the bench at Turf Moor after returning from his own injury issue.
Having lost four of their last six games in all competitions, it will be interesting to see just how much rotation there is, especially given that the Carabao Cup provides United with one of their best chances at lifting silverware this season.
One player who is expected to start on Tuesday is goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, who is yet to play since his summer move from Fenerbahce.
