Premier League leads the way as global transfer spending record broken
Football ticket experts have produced a remarkable alternative table that has Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham joint-bottom after looking at a change in season ticket prices from last year. Fans have been feeling the pinch amid a cost of living crisis, with a trip to their local Premier League club no longer proving to be a cheap day out.
The Athletic previously claimed that 17 out of 20 clubs in the league have raised ticket prices for the 2023/24 season, surpassing the 11 that did so the previous year. Only three clubs froze season ticket prices, while many rose dramatically.
But experts SeatPick have looked at the changes between last year and this year in terms of prices, noting the difference between the most expensive season tickets in just two seasons. Only three clubs failed to raise the price of their most expensive ticket, United, Chelsea and Spurs as their prices of £950, £940 and £2,025 respectively were not impacted.
Some supporters have seen a dramatic rise, however, as Fulham have almost tripled their most expensive ticket from £1,050 to £3,000 – an increase of 186 per cent in just one year. Those fans in the newly-redeveloped Riverside Stand will pay an average of £157 per game, almost three times the cost of the most expensive standard ticket at Craven Cottage.

Fulham fans penned an open letter to owner Shahid Khan to reconsider their price hike, as the club’s Supporters Trust have accused Khan of causing “distress and anxiety” amid their call to urge a change of heart, claiming that tickets costing £3,000 appear to be among the most expensive non-hospitality season tickets in football.
In addition, the club’s cheapest ticket will set Cottagers back an extra 29 per cent, now at £595 compared to last season’s £460, meaning Fulham’s most budget-friendly option will demand an average of 27 working hours to become affordable.

West Ham have seen the second-highest price increase for tickets at 58 per cent for their most expensive offer, from £1,025 to £1,620, almost double rivals Chelsea although the Hammers are able to offer supporters a side playing in European competitions – though those games in the Europa League are not included in most Premier League season ticket packages.
Newcastle, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, have risen their cheapest season ticket prices by 44% – more than any other club in the division. The ticket, now £600, amounts to four full days of work in the city, but the club’s new ballot system means that successful applicants were allocated a seat at random and have no choice of price.
While Liverpool have the cheapest matchday ticket at just £9, remaining consistent with last year’s lowest price and a whopping 83 per cent cheaper than their local rivals Everton – who have raised their cheapest ticket prices on a matchday from £40 to £55 – the second most expensive in the league behind champions Manchester City.
