Man United are handed a major BOOST ahead of a crucial week as Luke Shaw returns to training after three-month lay-off due to a muscle injury

Luke Shaw has returned to training in a major injury boost to Manchester United and Erik ten Hag ahead of a potentially season-defining run of games.

The England international last featured in United’s 2-0 defeat by Tottenham in August, when he suffered a muscle injury that has sidelined him for the past three months.

Shaw was pictured training with his team-mates at Carrington on Wednesday morning and could feature against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

The 28-year-old’s return provides some much-needed good news to Ten Hag, whose squad has been beset by injuries this season.

Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund picked up knocks in the 1-0 win over Luton ahead of the international break and were both forced to withdraw from the Denmark squad.

Andre Onana, meanwhile, was injured while with Cameroon but is expected to be fit for the trip to Everton.

Shaw’s absence has been exacerbated by Tyrell Malacia’s injury, with the Dutchman still to feature this season after missing the summer tour to the US.

Loan signings Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat have both featured at left back this season as have Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof.

United went into the international sixth in the Premier League with 21 points, seven behind league leaders Manchester City and five behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Ten Hag’s men face a potentially pivotal run of games, with the visit to Everton followed by a trip to Istanbul to face Galatasaray in the Champions League.

United are bottom of Group A with three points, one fewer than Copenhagen and Galatasaray, and need to win to keep their slim hopes of qualification alive.

Following their trip to Turkey, United travel to Newcastle on December 2 and host a resurgent Chelsea side four days later.
