The mother of Liverpool midfielder Luis Diaz has been rescued from her kidnappers – but his father is still missing.
His mother, Cilenis Marulanda, and his father, Luis Manuel Díaz, were both taken by their kidnappers on October 29 in Barrancas, La Guajira. It's understood the unidentified armed motorcyclists managed to track down the truck both were inside, before intercepting and boarding it, moments before they were taken away.
Diaz's mother Marulanda was quickly rescued after a blockade put in place by the army and the police. However, they are yet to track down the location of his father.

Director of police General William Salamanca confirmed she had been found by the authorities. “We are pleased that you are free again, madam,” he said. “I congratulate them [the authorities] for the reaction of all the police officers dedicated to the cause.”
However, he also stated their operation is yet to track down the whereabouts of his father. When asked about Diaz Sr, the police chief added: "Let's continue searching for the soccer player's father, we already have the mother."
CCTV footage obtained by SEMENA shows a motorcyclist riding behind the vehicle that was driving Diaz Sr and Marulanda moments before the kidnapping took place. A source also told SEMENA: "She is in good health, scared, but she is fine. They took the father away on a motorcycle, they took him out of the car and took him along the trails there."
A statement from the Colombia national team also added: "The Colombian Football Federation regrets the security situation that the parents of our player Luis Diaz are going through. From the FCF we express our solidarity with him and his entire family and we call for the relevant authorities to act as quickly as possible to resolve the situation."
Diaz joined Liverpool from Portuguese giants Porto in January 2022. His parents both chose to remain in Colombia instead of following him to Liverpool.
Nevertheless, he has remained close with both of his parents, despite the huge distance separating them.
