Klopp comments on Liverpool's new investment
PGMOL has apologised after Luis Diaz was wrongly disallowed a goal during Liverpool’s dramatic 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening. Diaz thought he had scored a first-half opener at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but was denied by the offside flag.
However, VAR didn’t draw lines to check the call, and replays seemingly showed Cristian Romero’s outstretched leg keeping Diaz onside.
Viewers were left baffled by the decision, especially given VAR checked it but opted against drawing the customary lines.
Sky Sports’ coverage could not review the decision due to not being sent the lines, which intensified the fury among Liverpool fans and suggested that PGMOL had accepted the mistake.
And PGMOL has now admitted the latest high-profile error by Premier League officials, publishing an apologetic statement.
It read: ‘PGMOL acknowledge a significant amount of human error occured during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool.
‘The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.
‘PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error. PGMOL will immediately be contacting Liverpool at the conclusion of the fixture to acknowledge the error.’

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher fumed on X (formerly Twitter) during the game with a foul-mouthed post.
He wrote: “When it takes this long for an answer from @FA_PGMOL over a contentious decision you know there’s been a f**k up!”
Diaz’s disallowed goal added to an action-packed affair in north London, which saw two Liverpool players shown red cards.
Curtis Jones was booked after connecting with more of Yves Bissouma’s leg than the ball during a 50-50 challenge in the 25th minute.
However, referee Simon Hooper reversed his initial decision and sent Jones off after reviewing footage on the pitchside VAR screen.
Heung-min Son opened the scoring for the hosts later in the first half, combining beautifully with Richarlison and James Maddison to continue his rich vein of form.

But Cody Gakpo fired Liverpool level against the run of play on the brink of the break, finishing past Guglielmo Vicario on the turn after Virgil van Dijk found him centrally in the box with a header.
But Jota entered the book in the 68th minute rather harshly after Destiny Udogie looked to have tripped himself up under pressure from the Portuguese star.
However, just 24 seconds later, Jota was entirely at fault for a rush of blood to the head, which saw him chop Udogie down on the left, earning his marching orders.
Liverpool showed heart and character to hold on until the final minute of six added on, but a harsh Joel Matip own goal handed Spurs an almighty three points.
Refereeing controversy has shrouded another big occasion to make the defeat even more sour for Jurgen Klopp’s visitors. And the more PGMOL apologies that arrive, the higher the frustration will grow.
