Jude Bellingham turned away after boarding Ukraine coach

Scotland v England preview | Football Digest

England star Jude Bellingham awkwardly boarded the wrong coach following the Three Lions’ 1-1 draw with Ukraine on Saturday. Fan footage from outside the Wroclaw Stadium showed the Real Madrid talent getting on the Ukraine bus before laughing off his error.

Gareth Southgate’s side were not at their best in their Euro 2024 qualifier, dropping points for the first time in their five matches. And their slightly lackadaisical approach to the game was amusingly summed up by Bellingham hours later.

With all the media duties fulfilled, England emerged from the stadium later in the evening and prepared to fly home from Poland. A video shared on social media showed Bellingham emerge from the stadium.

The 20-year-old was supposed to walk around the first coach before boarding the England team bus, which was out of shot. But instead, he climbed straight onto the bus that was meant for the Ukraine team.

A member of England’s backroom staff had to get on the coach to pull Bellingham off. The former Borussia Dortmund starlet finally walked the correct way, offering a laugh and a wave to the Three Lions supporters who were positioned outside the gate.

It came on an underwhelming night for England, who should have moved further towards confirming qualification to Euro 2024. Instead, they had to settle for a point after Kyle Walker cancelled out Oleksandr Zinchenko’s goal.

Bukayo Saka struck the crossbar but it was an otherwise toothless performance from Southgate’s men. Bellingham reflected on Instagram: “Not at our level but a point closer to Germany.”

England have beaten North Macedonia 7-0 and Malta 4-0 during qualifying. There have also been victories over Ukraine and Italy.

But in an attempt to manage expectations, Southgate insists not all their matches will see similar scorelines. He said afterwards: “The reality is we’re not going to win every game by fours and sevens as we’ve done in this qualifying campaign.

“That was a really good test, away from home, in a very passionate atmosphere. We had quite a few changes forced from the last game. Sometimes, especially with attacking play, it doesn’t quite click.

“We tried to refresh things to give them a different sort of problem but today our forward play, bar the goal and probably Bukayo’s effort that hit the bar, wasn’t at the level that it has been in our previous games.”
