Manchester United fans are begging for Jonny Evans to “start every week” after his marvellous assist against Burnley.
Evans made his first start for United since 2015 on Saturday due to Erik ten Hag’s injury crisis in defence. The 35-year-old, who rejoined the side in the summer after being released by Leicester, was thrusted into the line-up following the absences of Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane – who was only fit enough to make the bench.
But Evans quickly proved his many doubters wrong with an all-action performance. He scored a dream headed goal in the first-half, which was ruled out for offside.

The Northern Irishman, alongside a solid defensive performance, then played a sumptuous long ball for Bruno Fernandes’ stunning volley immediately after half-time. Roaming the centre circle, Evans used his weaker left foot to find his captain, who broke the deadlock in style.
United fans were left stunned at the centre-back’s all-round display. And it wasn’t long before they took to social media, urging that he keeps his spot as a starter under Erik ten Hag.

Evans' last start for United came on March 4, 2015 – a 1-0 win away at Newcastle in which Ashley Young scored an 89th-minute winner. He was initially signed on a short-term deal in pre-season but quickly impressed with his leadership, positive influence around the camp, earning him a one-year deal.
