Jermaine Jenas has slammed Paris Saint-Germain after they suffered a 4-1 defeat by Newcastle at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.

The Geordies got off to a dream start, with Miguel Almiron scoring in the opening 20 minutes of the match to send the home fans into delirium.

Dan Burn doubled the lead before half-time but amid Newcastle’s brilliance, PSG looked poor defensively, with Jenas blasting their defending on TNT Sports.

‘With the outgoings, as world class as they were and going younger in midfield, looking a bit fresher, I thought we might see a different look to this PSG side tonight.’

‘But It’s another year but the same old PSG by the looks of it.’

He added: ‘A penny for Luis Enrique’s thoughts. Defensively that was absolutely shocking.

‘The midfielders allowing players to run off them. Centre backs not making any type of decision to come out and defend.’

It was a much refreshed side with some of PSG’s big stars like Neymar, Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos leaving the club in the summer, with the Ligue 1 champions bringing in some new talents like Lucas Hernandez, Randal Kolo Muani and Ousmane Dembele.

For Newcastle, it was a huge victory, with Eddie Howe’s side, with Champions League football returning to St James’ Park for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

The atmosphere inside the stadium was electric, with Sean Longstaff got the third goal in front of the Gallowgate End, and it once again lifted the roof on the stadium.

Hernandez got one back for the away side in the 56th minute, but Newcastle would have the last say of the match with Fabian Schar putting the finishing touches on what was an excellent display, scoring in the 91st minute.
