‘I sang Boyz II Men at Liverpool initiation & changed words – it didn’t go well’

Halloween is not the only thing that can spook footballers.

Pyro waving ultras, central defenders who want to kick chunks out of them or a dreaded spot-kick in a penalty shootout are just a few things that keep players awake at night. However, there is something which may well be behind some footballers' decisions to stay at a club – the thought of having to do an initiation.

Standing on a chair and using an empty Lucozade bottle as a microphone is a rite of passage many players must walk before they are accepted by their new teams. Former Liverpool ace Jermaine Pennant opted for a more ambitious song when he joined the Reds – let’s just say, it did not go too well.

“I didn’t really do one at Arsenal,” he said exclusively to Daily Star Sport while speaking to NewBettingSites.uk. “You don’t really do them at the big clubs, it’s more the smaller clubs. The big clubs are too professional or too posh…

“The only one I can remember was for Liverpool, I think I did Boyz II Men, End of the Road. It was solo, standing in front of the group with my phone playing and singing to Boyz II Men.
