Gary Lineker has called out Manchester United amid the row surrounding Jadon Sancho. The Match of the Day presenter has questioned the Red Devils’ reaction to Sancho’s public message released on Sunday.
United boss Erik ten Hag gave a damning reason as to why he left the winger out of his squad for the trip to Arsenal. Asked why Sancho was not present, the Dutchman said: “Jadon, on his performances in training we did not select him.”
It didn’t take long for Sancho to issue a response. The 23-year-old posted a lengthy message on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.
Sancho claimed there were other reasons behind his exclusion and expressed his frustration at often being labelled a scapegoat. Ten Hag is yet to respond publicly to the post.

However, ESPN claims that the Dutchman is standing by his comments. Sancho could face disciplinary action from United following his social media activity.
Lineker has weighed in on the situation with a post of his own on X. He responded to an article from the Guardian which claimed United are backing Ten Hag over Sancho.
The former England striker wrote: “So the manager can go public, but the player can’t. Interesting.”
Lineker believes Ten Hag should have dealt with it better by not giving the real reason behind Sancho’s absence. He added in a later post: “‘I make the decisions’ would’ve sufficed and been wiser.”

Sancho featured in United’s first three Premier League games of the season. He was a second-half substitute in all of them, failing to score or assist in his 77 minutes on the pitch to date.
Sancho has struggled to live up to his price tag following his £73m move from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. He has just 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances in all competitions for United.
Sancho’s message on X reiterated his commitment to United. He wrote: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is (sic) completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.
“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, l’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and (am) grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
