Erik ten Hag previews Man Utd’s clash with Galatasaray in the Champions League
Manchester United will be aiming to keep their hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout stages alive on Wednesday night when they travel to Rams Park to take on Galatasaray. And ahead of the showdown, Galatasaray ultras have told home fans they are not allowed to use their mobile phones to access social media during the match.
United got their Champions League campaign off to the worst possible start in September when they were beaten 4-3 by Bayern Munich in Germany. The Red Devils then suffered a surprise 3-2 home defeat against Galatasaray in their second encounter.
A 1-0 Old Trafford victory against Copenhagen followed as Erik ten Hag’s side made hard work of their Danish opponents. But after losing to Copenhagen away from home earlier this month, United’s Champions League place in hanging by a thread.
Ahead of Wednesday’s clash, United find themselves bottom of the Group A table with three points. Second-place Copenhagen and third-place Galatasaray are level on four points, with Bayern already cementing their place in the knockout stages after winning all four of their encounters.

If Galatasaray secure the double over Ten Hag’s side, they will put themselves in a strong position to join Munich in the last 16 ahead of their final group game at Copenhagen. And before Galatasaray’s showdown with the Premier League giants, the club’s ultras posted a message on social media to tell fans not to use their phones. “There is no social media in the stands”, they wrote.
The ban may have been put in place so Galatasaray fans can give their wholehearted support to their team rather than being faced with online distractions. Red Devils fan channel The United Stand featured the post on their X (formerly Twitter) page and wrote: “There is absolutely no social media/phones allowed in the stands when the game is being played. 90 minutes of aggressive support. Go to war with the team!”
Galatasaray are a formidable side on home soil, with Rams Park delivering one of the most intimidating atmospheres in world football. The Turkish club have won all six of their league matches in front of their own fans this season, although they were defeated by Bayern Munich on their own patch last month.

“I think we improved [since the last game against Galatasaray], so it’s good progress”, explained United boss Ten Hag on Monday. “You see how we are stepping up, we are more stable, we are winning games. So definitely, there’s a big difference from the first moment we played them.
“We are confident because the last games in the league away from home were also very hostile environments and we played very well – we were very calm and composed. This team also [did it] last year in Barcelona. So we know how to deal with it and tomorrow I’m sure we’ll be a confident team on the pitch.”
