Wayne Rooney’s DC United were interested in both Jesse Lingard and Ravel Morrison this summer, according to a new report.
Lingard is without a club after leaving Nottingham Forest and Morrison is also a free agent after playing last season with DC United.
And according to the Washington Post, Lingard held talks with the club this summer while DC also wanted Morrison back.
According to the Post, Lingard was seeking a guaranteed long-term contract, which seemed to have been prohibitive to signing him.
Rooney cited salary cap issues in a recent press conference, and said the club was unlikely to add any free agents before MLS’ roster deadline on September 13.

Morrison, who made 14 league appearances for DC United last season, had reportedly been training with the club of late.
Rooney said he’s been ‘brilliant’ but the club initially declined to bring him back for a second season and bought out his $850k contract this summer, according to the Post.
The report also states that the club held talks with former Swansea and West Ham forward Andre Ayew.

DC United were also said to be interested in Ghana’s Andre Ayew, who last played for Forest
Ayew was a teammate of Lingard’s at Forest last season.
The ex-Manchester United man, who left the club in 2022, has recently hinted he’d be open to a Saudi Arabia move and was also seen training across from Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium.
‘I’m considering all options,’ Lingard told Sky Sports recently. ‘I’ve never ruled out any team or club out, so for me it’s just picking the right team and it’s got to be right for me.
‘I just want to play football at the end of the day and that’s all I want to do.’
