Brighton wonderkid Evan Ferguson has signed a new deal, meaning he is now tied down to the Sussex club until 2029.

The 19-year-old striker, who has been linked with all of the Premier League’s big clubs, has drawn comparisons to Alan Shearer amid his meteoric rise.

Many are predicting he will become Brighton’s next £100million man once the offers begin to roll in and interested clubs will now have to get him out of an even longer contract.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi told the club’s website: ‘Evan deserves this new contract and he has a very big future ahead of him.’

David Weir, Brighton’s technical director, added: ‘Evan is a brilliant young talent and we are delighted for him.

‘He’s shown his ability at club and international level, after breaking into the team at the start of the year, and we are looking forward to working with him and watching his continued progress.’

Mail readers will be able to read an exclusive interview with Ferguson later on Friday, conducted by our columnist Chris Sutton.

Sutton and Ferguson discussed his new deal, which represents a reward for Ferguson after he became the first teenager since Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney in 2005 to score at least 10 Premier League goals in a calendar year.

It comes after he signed his last contract in April until 2028.

The Republic of Ireland international is a favourite of Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, who has predicted he can become one of Europe’s greatest strikers.

Ferguson made his senior debut for previous club Bohemians at the age of 14, facing Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in a pre-season game in 2019.

Evan joined Albion in January 2021, and became the club’s fifth youngest senior debutant later that year against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup.
