Besiktas are reportedly prepared to offer Mason Greenwood a chance to restart his career with the Turkish club expected to make a loan offer to Manchester United for the forward.

Man United announced earlier this month that Greenwood will leave the club after concluding an internal review into the striker.

The 21-year-old, who was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted rape, will not play for the club again and is likely to leave on loan or see his contract settled.

The Crown Prosecution Service subsequently dropped the charges in February of this year after key witnesses withdrew and new material came to light.

United concluded after their own probe that Greenwood did not commit the offences which he was charged with but decided it would be best for all if his future was away from Old Trafford.

The club announced it would help Greenwood secure a move to continue his career.

Besiktas are now set to make an approach to sign the 21-year-old on a loan, according to the I newspaper.

The Turkish Super Lig club are reportedly interested in an initial six-month loan deal for Greenwood, which would gauge public feeling around the striker.

Should the move prove successful and Greenwood be welcomed by supporters Besiktas would be prepared to discuss a long-term move.

Mail Sport had reported earlier this month that Besiktas were among the clubs to have expressed an interest in signing Greenwood.

Man United have until the transfer deadline on Friday to secure Greenwood a move in Europe, unless they cancel his contract by mutual consent before the end of the window, which would make him a free agent.

Greenwood still has two years to run on his Man United contract.

Man United said they would help Greenwood find a new club when confirming he will leave

Saudi Arabian clubs had been viewed as an option, with their transfer window running for three more weeks.

Clubs in the Saudi Pro League have reportedly snubbed taking on the 21-year-old striker, amid claims football chiefs are concerned about the potential baggage he could bring with him.

Steven Gerrard publicly claimed he does not want to sign him for Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al-Ettifaq. The Liverpool legend said reports of a move by his new club for Greenwood were ‘fake news’.

The situation comes as major clubs in Italy also turned their back on the signing up the former Premier League star.
