Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has pointed the finger at Mikel Arteta for two decisions he claims have been wrongly made. The TV star says the Gunners boss has dealt with the goalkeeper saga badly and claims he should have signed a striker in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season in controversial circumstances on Saturday. The 1-0 loss at Newcastle saw Arteta launch into a rant about officials and VAR following Anthony Gordon’s goal.
Defeat saw the Gunners drop to fourth in the table, three points off top spot. Tottenham have the chance to go back top when they face Chelsea on Monday evening and would open up a gap of five points to their north London rivals.
Morgan has backed Arteta’s verdict on the performance of the officials on Saturday. However, he says the Spaniard only has himself to blame for issues in the Arsenal side.
David Raya has continued in goal despite a number of shaky performances. Morgan believes the Brentford loanee should have done better to stop Newcastle from scoring and wants to see Aaron Ramsdale reinstated.

He also says there is a glaring need for a new striker at Arsenal. Morgan claims questions need to be asked of Arteta for both of those decisions.
Morgan told talkSPORT: “I still don’t get the Raya thing in goal. On the goal that should never have been allowed, he made yet another cock-up.
“Aaron Ramsdale is watching week after week. Is Raya showing anyone he is an upgrade from Ramsdale? I don’t think he is.
“I think unfortunately all the pressure was created entirely by Arteta, who said he was going to have two number ones. Nobody believed that when he said it, and it is clear he thinks Raya is his number one.

“I don’t think most Arsenal fans look at this situation still confident in our goalkeeper. So he [Arteta] has managed to destabilise the goalkeeper situation; he hasn’t bought a world-class striker, and I think these are big question marks on Arteta.
“If he really looked at last season when we choked the title and thought, how do we go and win the title? Getting Declan Rice was brilliant, but he did not get a striker, and he has cocked up the goalkeeper thing.
“Personally, I would bring back Ramsdale with a point to prove. I think he is a better goalkeeper.
“I don’t care what fancy footwork Raya does; if he can’t stop goals, then I am afraid he should not be in goal. The primary function of a goalkeeper is to stop goals from being scored, not to play like Zinedine Zidane.”
