Max Verstappen sent offer to quit Red Bull and join F1 rival keen to be his team-mate
Former F1 world champion Nico Rosberg has joked that he will inflict his notorious selfie curse on Max Verstappen to end the Red Bull star’s dominant win streak. Rosberg’s bad omen twice came into play at the Italian Grand Prix, where Verstappen notched his 10th Grand Prix victory in succession.
Among F1 fans, the story goes that a selfie with Rosberg, or even a show of support from the German, is bound to precede some form of bad luck or poor performance.
Speaking before qualifying, Rosberg confidently stated that Verstappen would take pole position at Monza. Sure enough and to everyone’s surprise, Carlos Sainz came through to put himself at the front of the grid.
With Sainz’s Ferrari team-mate, Charles Leclerc, starting in P3, it promised to be a big day for the Prancing Horse in their home race.

Rosberg couldn’t help but get among the excitement, sharing a selfie in front of Ferrari’s section of the pit wall with the caption: “Forza Ferrari.” Sainz battled valiantly but ran out of steam in his battle to hold off Verstappen by Lap 15, and the Dutchman went on to win the race comfortably.
In the days following, Rosberg was asked about the curse and whether he would make Verstappen the next subject in a bid to stop his relentless F1 win streak.

“I even tried to do a neutral background this weekend,” the former Mercedes star told the Sky Sports F1 Podcast. “I didn’t want to cause any problems. I put ‘Forza Ferrari’ in the caption because all of us were wishing Ferrari to win.
“Maybe I’m not even allowed to do that then, apparently. It would be a bit aggressive if I then take a picture with Max before a race. That would not be cool… but I’ll do it anyway!”
Verstappen has almost two weeks to let his 10th consecutive victory sink in, with the reigning double world champion now on the longest Grand Prix win streak in history, surpassing Sebastian Vettel and Alberto Ascari.
The 25-year-old will once again be heavily fancied when action resumes in Singapore later this month. Sergio Perez is Verstappen’s nearest challenger in the Drivers’ Championship, but the Mexican is a whopping 145 points behind.
