Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Kyneton

Ciaron Maher and David Eustace taking one to Kyneton for a Monday meeting should immediately sound the bells to bet and I’m happy to take the short quote about one of their charges while jockey Craig Newitt could be in for a decent day.

SAINT OF KATOWICE (Race 6 No. 3 – $1.60)

Saint Of Katowice is a short-priced favourite but should be extremely hard to beat. The Irish-bred import strolled to an easy win at Swan Hill when resuming and should go right on with the job.

DIVINE WIT (Race 2 No. 3 – $4.20)

Divine Wit was outsprinted over 1000m but did his best work late when resuming at Cranbourne. The step up to 1200m will be perfect for the son of Bel Esprit and he’ll go well.

THE SPANIARD (Race 3 No. 5 – $3.60)

The Spaniard is wayward but looks to have a bit of ability. He should have finished closer when resuming at Ballarat and the extra trip will suit.

BIG ANGEL (Race 4 No. 10 – $2.20)

Big Angel should have just about won over this course last time out and was close-up at this trip two runs back. She’s a great chance to break through here.

YULARA (Race 5 No. 3 – $10)

Yulara improved with the step up in trip to break through here last time out. He’s a developing type that could measure up to this slightly harder race.

Craig Newitt has six rides at Kyneton on Monday, including a couple of chances that are right in the market. Don’t let Newitt’s rides at longer odds get under your guard either.

RED SISTA (Race 1 No. 8 – $9.50), DELIGHTFUL JOURNEY (Race 2 No. 2 – $4.60), DEPLOY AND DESTROY (Race 4 No. 3 – $10), HONOUR ME (Race 5 No. 3 – $3.10), MAUSER (Race 6 No. 7 – $26), BISMARC (Race 7 No. 7 – $26)

The Warrnambool carnival takes centre stage in Victorian racing this week with meetings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, which is Grand Annual Steeplechase and Warrnambool Cup Day. Wodonga will hold a day meeting on Friday before Cranbourne races at night. Melbourne Saturday racing returns to Caulfield this week with Donald holding the provincial meeting.
