Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Cranbourne night meeting

Herald-Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over the eight-race card at Cranbourne on Friday night.

BEST BET

EARS THE BARMAN (Race 6, No.1 – $2)

Wasn’t far away from the classy Chaillot two runs back but ran on well to score narrowly in the wet at Pakenham last time. No reason he can’t overrun his rivals again at Cranbourne.

NEXT BEST

EXALTED CROWN (Race 3, No.8 – $2.90)

Is steadily working up to a win and he gets his chance to break through at Cranbourne. He led and was only run down late in the wet at Yarra Valley and can give them something to chase again here.

WARRIOR WOMAN (Race 4, No.8 – $4.40)

Has come of age since trainer Phillip Stokes stepped her up in trip and she can notch her third win in four starts in Friday night’s race. She’ll roll forward and can fend off her rivals again with even luck.

DAANIA (Race 7, No.6 – $4.80)

Has raced consistently since returning from a break last month and showed she wasn’t far away from a win at Ballarat last time out. She’s another that will be in the firing line for a long way.

VALUE BET

FLYING MASCOT (Race 2, No.8 – $5.50)

Flying Mascot is a $5.50 chance in early betting but expecting her price to drift because of her tricky gate in the lead-up to this race. She was outsprinted by the promising debut winner Facemask and the form out of that race has stood up.

THE JOCKEY

LUKE NOLEN

Nolen will have the backing of the Peter Moody and Phillip Stokes stables at Cranbourne and they look to have supplied the jockey with half of his strong book of rides.

VIDA ROSE (Race 2, No. 12, $8), WARRIOR WOMAN (Race 4, No. 8, $4.40), SEEMINGLY DISCREET (Race 5, No. 2, $2.60), TRITON RISING (Race 6, No. 5 $5), TURBEAU (Race 7, No. 2, $4.40), FACEMASK (Race 8, No. 3 $3.90)
