Godolphin elect to spell Anamoe instead running in Group 1 test

Godolphin have pulled the pin on a Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) tilt for star two-year-old Anamoe with the colt headed to the paddock.

Trainer James Cummings confirmed the decision to Racing NSW Stewards on track at Randwick on day two of The Championships.

Anamoe was a red-hot $1.50 favourite TAB.com.au to win the Champagne Stakes at Randwick next Saturday but has since been removed from betting markets.

The son of Street Boss stamped himself as the horse to beat in the Champagne with a superb performance to run away with the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Cummings had said earlier this week that you could ‘take it to the bank’ that Anamoe would run in the Champagne before connections elected to pull the pin and begin preparing for the spring.

Anamoe also finished runner up in the Golden Slipper and was a placegetter in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in February in a sensational autumn preparation.

His scratching has seen the hand of trainers John, Wayne and Michael Hawkes grow even stronger on paper with stablemates Hilal ($3) and Saif ($4.50) now heading the market for the 1600m feature.
