A dreadful barrier draw on Wednesday could lead to a Saturday win for Pammy Joy at Caulfield.
Trainers Ben and JD Hayes scratched Pammy Joy from a race at Sandown on Wednesday to wait for Saturday after the filly drew barrier 18 for a $50,000 race.
Now Pammy Joy is a $9 chance to win the $150,000 VOBIS Gold Ingot (1400m) from barrier eight.
Pammy Joy is one of only four horses in the 12-horse field to have won a race, breaking her maiden status after a tough run in heavy ground at Echuca.
Ben Hayes said Pammy Joy came through her maiden win in terrific order, making Saturday’s assignment a winnable race.
“She’s really done well out of her win at Echuca and she handles wet tracks,” he said.
“It could be a good race for her.”
Damien Oliver will take over from Caulfield Cup-winning jockey Cory Parish on Pammy Joy on Saturday.
The Nicconi filly has firmed from $10 into $9 in TAB’s early betting on the VOBIS Gold Ingot.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr-trained Sunfall tops the betting at $3.40.
