Wolves star Diogo Jota jokes Bruno Fernandes has stolen his number at Man Utd

Wolves forward Diogo Jota has joked that he would be unable to make a move to Manchester United this summer – because his international teammate Bruno Fernandes already has his shirt number.

Jota has had a superb season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions, and he was on a hot streak of form that had seen him net six goals and create one assist in five games before the campaign was suspended.

This has seen speculation grow that he could make a move away from Wolves in the near future, with United said to be among the clubs monitoring the 23-year-old's progress.

But in an interview with Portuguese publication Record Jota played down the rumours linking him with the Red Devils.

"No, to begin with, I am '18' and now Bruno Fernandes is also '18', so we would soon have a problem. Just kidding!" Jota said.

"It is always good to see your name linked to clubs and with a club of that stature. But I also know that this is not the most important thing. Just look at what is happening now with this pandemic."

Despite his insistence that a change of scene is not in his mind, Jota waxed lyrical about United's Fernandes, who he knows from playing for his national team after winning his first senior cap for Portugal last year.
