Joe Willock has set a new Premier League record as he reminded Arsenal of his undoubted quality.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined Newcastle United on loan from the Gunners in February and has proved an instant hit in Steve Bruce's side.

Willock has featured on a consistent basis for the Magpies and has proven a point to Mikel Arteta in the process.

He scored Newcastle's only goal in their home win versus Sheffield on Wednesday evening, becoming the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six consecutive matches (21 years and 272 days).

The record was previously held by Romelu Lukaku, who went on a goalscoring streak for Everton in the 2015/16 season.

Willock's impressive run began with a goal in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and was followed up with solitary strikes against West Ham United, Liverpool, Leicester City and Manchester City.

It remains to be seen whether or not the London-born midfielder will be presented with the chance to impress at the Emirates next campaign, though Arteta has suggested there is a possibility the youngster may feature.

"He has a chance", the Gunners' boss replied when asked whether Willock would be given a chance in pre-season to prove himself.

“He is a player we really like so at the end of the season he will come back here and then we will make the decision again for what is best to move forward.

"He is a real threat in the opponent’s box, physically he can do anything you ask for and has got the right mentality, is good technically and he is English."

Willock was greeted by chants of 'We want you to stay' during the Magpies' final home fixture of the season and refused to rule out returning to Newcastle.

"I'm not sure," he said.

"I need to have a conversation and see what the best move for me is.

"I have made friends for life and made a really big connection with the fans.

"It is is one of my options and I am going to consider it."
