What Man Utd star Daniel James thinks of making Leeds switch before transfer deadline

Leeds United are interested in signing Manchester United winger Daniel James on loan for the remainder of the season but any deal will be hard to pull off. That’s because the Red Devils are keen to keep the Wales international at Old Trafford.

James started the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but was left out of the squad for the match with Brighton this weekend.

Leeds almost recruited James instead of United when he left Swansea and are interested in him.

Brighton are also monitoring the situation and could make a loan bid for the 22-year-old.

The Athletic claim United want to keep James at Old Trafford this season though.

The player is also keen to remain and fight for his place even if Jadon Sancho completes a move from Borussia Dortmund.

Sky Sports also claim James has told Solskjaer he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

United would likely look at the situation again should they sign Sancho or another winger before next Monday’s transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer believes Marcus Rashford can have an impressive season.

The England star netted a brilliant individual effort in the 3-2 win over Brighton and the United boss thinks there is plenty more to come.

He said: “He was getting better and better, I had a little bit of a go at him halfway through the first half for a tackle that he evaded, but I think his reaction, I think his sharpness is getting better.

“He’s more direct, you can see his confidence is getting there.

“A great goal, an absolute great run and great finish for the one that was disallowed as well and I think Marcus will really kick on this season.”

United face the same opponents on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.

After that they take on Tottenham in a mouth-watering Premier League clash on Sunday (4.30pm).

Solskjaer was delighted with his side for getting an important win at the death at Brighton.

He explained: “The handball was before full-time so it’s probably the right thing to do and for us it’s a big thing.

“We’ve discussed it this season, we need more late goals.

“We were the team that lost the fewest games apart from Liverpool last season, but we drew too many.

“To get two extra points after conceding the equaliser so late on is a great boost for us.”
