Tottenham Hotspur’s season has somewhat been turned around by Antonio Conte’s arrival. The Italian is set to mark his stamp on the team with his own signings in January – and after reports that six players could leave and three players could join – Express Sport takes a look at their potential new-look XI after the January window.
Hugo Lloris has been Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper since his arrival in August 2012, and the Frenchman will be likely to continue between the sticks going forward under Conte.
The 35-year-old has made 394 appearances for the Lilywhites and is firmly their first-choice keeper in front of Pierluigi Gollini.
Lloris is out of contract in the summer and is yet to commit his future to the club, but Conte said he ‘loves’ Tottenham and has made it clear he’d like him to stay.
Defence: Romero, Sanchez, Dier
Cristian Romero joined Tottenham in the summer in a £50million deal from Atalanta and has thoroughly impressed in his time in north London despite injuries somewhat hindering him.
He would continue to be partnered by Davinson Sanchez, who has come back to the fore at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after failing to make himself a regular.
Eric Dier’s experience would be needed at the back to marshall the duo.
However, there would not be a place for Japhet Tanganga with the London-born centre-back reportedly on the list of potential departures.
Midfield: Lamptey, Hobjberg, Kessie, Reguilon
Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Steven Bergwijn have all failed to impress in their spells at the club, leading Conte to axe the Irish international and the Dutch youngster.
Brighton’s £50m-rated star Tariq Lamptey is seen as a natural successor for the role after some inspired performances at Brighton, with Sergio Reguilon likely to line up on the opposite wing.
In the middle, the sales of Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso could be sanctioned, meaning the club would need at least one reinforcement.
And Franck Kessie could come in alongside Pierre-Emile Hobjberg as part of a new-look midfield.
The AC Milan midfielder is out of contract in the summer, meaning a cut-price deal could be completed, though a number of other Premier League clubs are also interested.
Attack: Traore, Kane, Son
Traore has been linked to Tottenham for months, with the Spaniard having been heavily touted to join whilst Nuno Esprito Santo was manager.
The rumours have continued with Conte’s arrival, and reports have stated the Italian is a big fan of Traore and is confident he can sign him for a cut-price fee of just £20m
The tricky winger would likely be joined by Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in the front three that has shot up the Premier League in recent weeks.
There would, however, be no place for Dele Alli if reports are to be believed, with the former England international also set to leave. Lucas Moura has been in brilliant form recently but may be relegated to the bench to make way for Traore.
