Thomas Tuchel ‘super happy’ as Chelsea boss matches Jose Mourinho record in Tottenham win

Chelsea: Tuchel discusses Werner’s form

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel revealed he is “super happy” to have won his first London derby as head coach. Chelsea beat Tottenham 1-0 on Thursday to make it three matches unbeaten under the German. A first-half penalty from Jorginho was enough for the Blues to claim all three points.

Tuchel has become the first Chelsea manager since Jose Mourinho in 2004 to have kept a clean sheet in his first three games in charge.

And it was victory over Mourinho’s lifeless Tottenham which has left the former PSG boss delighted.

“We are super happy about the result,” Tuchel told the BBC.

“It was a tough game against a strong opponent but we did very well and controlled the game well.

“It was a good first half. In the second half we lost more of the possession and the distances in the passing were too long.”

Tottenham came into the game more in the second half but Chelsea held on for the victory.

“If you play against a quality team you have to accept there are moments you have to suffer,” Tuchel added.

“We defended very actively and bravely. We were looking for a second goal desperately as that would have killed the game.

“I’m happy with the spirit and the attitude in defending. A very solid team performance and a deserved win.”

Tuchel has played with three at the back in his first three matches.

And he is delighted with how his new squad have adapted to it.

“It’s not about my methods,” Tuchel said.

“I’m happy with the attitude, the squad, the potential. They are fine guys, it’s a nice group and they are open.

“It’s a pleasure to be around them. We have a lot of support in the whole club. It was a quick start but an easy one because I feel very welcome.”

Mason Mount was named man of the match and the England star is enjoying the new role he has been asked to play.

“The manager wants us to play in that style and it is working well, it is new and different for some of us including me as a false nine and we are all learning,” Mount told BT Sport.

“It will be difficult for other teams because different formations and tactics means they won’t know what we will come with.”

The one negative for Chelsea was an injury suffered by Thiago Silva in the first half.

And Tuchel admitted it did not look good for the Brazilian, saying: “I saw Thiago with a big strap around his muscle but we have to wait.

“It’s worrying because it’s a muscle injury.”
