Thiago Alcantara transfer price set as Liverpool expected to make move

Bayern Munich are prepared to let Thiago Alcantara leave the club providing interested suitors meet their £27million (€30m) valuation.

The midfielder is intent on moving on this summer despite still having another year to run on his contract.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with his signature and remain the favourites to sign him, though previous reports suggested they were baulking at Thiago's price tag.

In the current circumstances Liverpool do not have excess cash reserves to spare but it is believed they will make their approach in the coming weeks.

This follows Bayern's decision to drop their previous asking price of £36m to the slightly more affordable £27m, as reported by The Athletic .

Bayern chiefs have backtracked on their initial hardline stance after reassessing their options and accepting that a fee of any kind is better than losing Thiago for nothing next summer.

They feel that £27m for a 29-year-old with less than 12 months on his deal constitutes the "fair fee" which CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was insistent on receiving to part ways with Thiago, who no longer wants to be at the club.

The Spaniard looks to have ended his seven-year stint at the club in style as Bayern clinched a prestigious treble by securing the Champions League.

Former Liverpool and Bayern midfielder Dietmar Hamann has weighed in on the speculation by stating he would be surprised if Thiago did now not move to Anfield.

Hamann told talkSPORT Breakfast : “He’s been offered a contract in Munich which he’s turned down.

“He must have shown an interest in staying otherwise they wouldn’t have offered him a contract.

“But in the last minute he pulled out and said he might want to do something else.

“I’d be very surprised if he turned down a contract from Bayern Munich if he hasn’t got anything else [on the table].

“I’m sure he’s got an offer from Liverpool, it’s probably about the transfer fee now."
