This week, Lincoln’s on loan forward from Nottingham Forest, Brennan Johnson is under the spotlight…
Lincoln forward Brennan Johnson shows plenty of confidence when he runs at defenders
CLUB: Lincoln City (on loan from Nottingham Forest)
VALUE: £1m 2020-21
WHAT HAS HE GOT?
This boyish-looking forward caught my eye with his determined running at defenders in possession of the ball.
Right-footed, he has moved around the front and is comfortable wherever he receives the ball.
His work rate is not in doubt. He reminds me a little of Leicester’s Harvey Barnes when I saw him on loan at MK Dons a few seasons ago.
I like the way he takes the ball easily in his stride with clean control. For a young player the confidence to put his foot on the ball before accelerating away with a short burst shows real maturity.
His father, David, played more than 400 career games, mainly for Forest and Ipswich. He, too, was quick and his son’s combination play showed an appreciation of his colleagues.
He won a senior Wales cap in November against USA.
However the 19-year-old needs to score more goals in his position as a forward
WHAT DOES HE NEED?
He may be too slight to play centrally. He may benefit from attacking from wide areas where there is more space. He needs to be aware that for all his making of goals he must also be a regular on the scoresheet as a forward.
Michael Appleton has loaned well at Lincoln with younger players keen to make an impact. Johnson is showing good signs.
