Solskjaer confirms two Man Utd wonderkids have been promoted to first-team

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that two wonderkids have been promoted to the first-team fold.

Manchester United face West Brom next in the Premier League as they look to get their title bid back on track.

The Red Devils have had a rollercoaster of a few weeks so far, beating Southampton 9-0 but also drawing to Arsenal and Everton.

They are now five points behind Manchester City, who have a game in hand over their local rivals.

And United have the chance to close the gap on Sunday when they face West Brom in the afternoon.

Solskjaer has also promoted two youngsters to the first-team, with them taking part in training ahead of the Baggies clash.

"The young kids, we’ve moved Shola up with us, Hannibal will join us and we’ll keep them with us for a while," he said.

"It’s the next step in their development, we’ve got to take the hit that when they play for the reserves they have to travel by themselves. It’s a nice step for them, they’ve done really well."

Shola Shoretire and Hannibal Mejbri are two of the best kids in the club's academy.

They have been touted for stardom, while the former was promoted last week after signing his first professional contract with the Red Devils.

Mejbri, on the other hand, has impressed United's Under-23 coach Neil Cox, as well as fellow youngster Amad Diallo.

The 18-year-old signed from Atalanta earlier this month and has been tipped to be a first-team regular soon.

Meanwhile, Cox has revealed that Mejbri, 18, played on with a broken nose earlier in the season after suffering "15 fouls a match".

“I think Hannibal has lots of quality and the frustrating point for him is that there must be about 15 fouls on him per game,” he said.

“And at some point if it’s not stopped, or if the referee is not protecting him, he’s going to get his leg broken. That’s what I fear for him.

“He loves getting on the ball, he loves creating and teams love to hack him down as much as they can. He’s doing really well.

"He's been outstanding for the last couple of games. He was outstanding against Liverpool and I thought he was excellent again [against Blackburn].

“I think what a lot of people don’t realise about Hannibal is that they see him getting fouled, they hear the screams every now and then but he’s a tough cookie.

“The Accrington game the lad broke his nose in the first 10 minutes and he played the whole game with two stents up his nose, there’s not many players who would do that.

"He’s a lot tougher than he’s given credit for.

"I think he’s the type that he wants the ball all the time, he’s not going to shy away from it and that’s what we want, you don’t want your top players being worried, he just needs a bit of protection or it could result in him being badly injured.”
