League One Shrewsbury Town have mercilessly mocked Manchester United on Twitter after the Red Devils’ 4-0 thrashing against Liverpool.
Ralf Rangnick’s side were walloped at Anfield on Tuesday evening, with the hosts enjoying 72 per cent of possession and the game effectively over after 22 minutes when Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah made it 2-0.
United fan ‘KD’ had posted early in the game saying: ‘We are looking like @shrewsweb at Anfield,’ followed by a dejected emoji.
But after United went on to lose 4-0, the third-tier side – who lost 4-1 in the FA Cup at Anfield earlier this season – bit back with a hilarious response.
They tweeted: ‘We scored at Anfield this season. You didn’t. Levels.’
United’s defeat, after their 5-0 reverse in October, means they lost their two Premier League games against Liverpool by an aggregate score of 9-0.

Jurgen Klopp’s side walloped the Red Devils at Anfield on Tuesday, with Mo Salah to the fore
The Shrews gave Jurgen Klopp’s side an early scare in the third round of the cup, with Daniel Udoh scoring the opener.
But the Reds came back into the game via 17-year-old Kaide Gordon – their youngest ever FA Cup scorer – and a Fabinho penalty given for handball just before half-time.
Roberto Firmino scored a clever backheel in the 78th minute and Fabinho lashed home from close range in stoppage time, but the game was much more competitive than the scoreline suggested – unlike United’s visit on Tuesday.

A rotated Reds side eventually triumphed after two late goals against the Shrews in January
At the full time whistle, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, who started in defence for a makeshift Reds side, made his way into the Shrewsbury dressing room to congratulate them on a valiant display while also offering his shirt.
Van Dijk echoed his praise for Shrewsbury on social media, wishing them for the rest of the season on Twitter, and Shrews star Elliott Bennett said he made a ‘classy gesture’ to visit the players, calling him ‘a Rolls Royce’ of a player.
Shrewsbury currently lie 17th in League One, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
