The opening of the January transfer window in a week’s time will allow Premier League clubs to enter into pre-contract agreements with superstars currently playing abroad. Any player out of contract in the summer is permitted to sign a deal to join a foreign team from the New Year.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool will all be looking to take advantage of this rule next month.

Some of their own players, such as Jesse Lingard and Antonio Rudiger, would be able to sign their own agreements with teams overseas.

While those clubs will look to bring in players to boost their squads for the final months of the season, they can also get a headstart on their recruitment for next year.

An abundance of high-profile players  will be on the market for free when they would otherwise cost a substantial amount.

Here, Daily Express Sport takes a look at seven of those superstars…

Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid may be the team most likely to sign Kylian Mbappe, but he remains the biggest superstar available to sign a pre-contract agreement.

At just 23, Mbappe’s best years are still ahead of him and he possesses a stunning record of 147 goals in 195 PSG games, as well as winning three French titles.

Isco’s time at Real Madrid increasingly looks to be over, having failed to find a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

The Spaniard’s talent is obvious, having won two La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues, and has previously been a target of Arsenal.

Lorenzo Insigne

Captain of Napoli and a star of the Italy team that won Euro 2020, Lorenzo Insigne could be ready to make a step up in status of club next season.

Insigne has helped to fire Napoli to two Coppa Italias during his career, but appears set to move on with the Serie A club currently unwilling to meet his wage demands.

Franck Kessie

Only just entering his prime at the age of 25 is Franck Kessie, with the midfielder understood to be ready to leave AC Milan.

A host of clubs are chasing his signature, with Kessie having become a key part of a Rossinieri side which currently sits third in Serie A.

Luis Suarez

He may be entering the twilight of his professional career, but Luis Suarez is still capable of firing teams to trophies, as reflected by his 21 goals for Atletico Madrid as they won La Liga last year.

But with his contract entering its final six months, his relationship with Atletico boss Diego Simeone appears to breaking down, making him a prime target for a club looking for a goalscorer.

Angel Di Maria

His time at Manchester United may have been a disaster, but Angel Di Maria has been a key player for PSG in recent seasons.

He has won four league titles in France as well as scoring the winning goal for Argentina in the final of the Copa America in the summer, and would still make a good signing for a Premier League side.

Ivan Perisic

Ivan Perisic has been one of the best wingers in Europe since helping Borussia Dortmund to win the German double in 2012.

He starred as Inter Milan won Serie A last season, but amid their much-publicised financial issues, the Croatian could move on from the San Siro on a free transfer.
