Romeo Beckham signs deal with Puma – despite David’s lifetime Adidas partnership

Romeo Beckham has signed a multi-million pound deal with sports brand Puma despite dad David having a lifetime partnership with rival company Adidas.

Now there might be some heightened festive competition in the Beckham household this Christmas with Romeo penning a long-term contract with the German company.

David signed a bumper £115m deal with Adidas back in 2003 in one of the biggest ever sponsorship deals in sporting history.

But son Romeo has opted to join rival sportswear brand Puma with the bitter history between the companies well noted.

After working together on the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory, a family feud during World War II caused a fall-out between brothers Rudolf and Adolf who went on to set up rival shoe companies in Germany.

The 19-year-old is entering his second season as a professional footballer but has already gained traction in the sporting world thanks to the foundations laid down by his father.

Romeo signed his first pro contract in September and is currently registered to USL League One team Fort Lauderdale who are an affiliated side of Inter Miami – the MLS side owned by David Beckham.

In a statement on Thursday, he said: “The FUTURE Z boots match my game perfectly. They’re light so that I can use my pace and agility, but they also grip the ball amazingly so I can dribble and pass effectively.

“I love the colours of the Under the Lights pack, which combine my passions of fashion and football.”

Following in the footsteps of PSG star Neymar who also dons the Puma FUTURE Z footwear, Romeo added: “Neymar is amazing and I love to watch him play, he messaged me when he saw me wearing Puma… this made my day."
