PSG 'playing hardball over Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe'

Paris Saint-Germain ‘playing hardball over Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe as French giants would rather let star leave on a free transfer in 2022 than sell him for less than his value in 2021’

  • PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has been a long-term target of Real Madrid’s
  • The 21-year-old’s Paris-Saint Germain contract with expires in summer of 2022
  • The French giants signed Mbappe from Monaco for £166million in August 2017

Paris Saint-Germain are digging their heels in over Kylian Mbappe as he continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The striker has been a long-term target of Real’s as they look for their next ‘galactico’ in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era.

And according to Spanish paper AS, PSG would rather keep hold of their asset until his contract expires than sell him below his transfer value.

AS report PSG would rather lose him on a free transfer in 2022 than sell him cheaply in 2021

Mbappe’s contract runs out in the summer of 2022 and the French giants are determined to keep him until then unless a substantial offer is received for the French World Cup winner. They signed him for £166million from Monaco in August 2017.

AS report that due to the coronavirus pandemic, Real have accepted that it’s nigh-on impossible to sign Mbappe this summer and have therefore earmarked a swoop next summer instead.

A bid in 2021 makes more economical sense for Real as they could potentially sign the 21-year-old for less than this summer as by then he would only have one year left on contract.

But any hopes Real may have of doing so will be crushed by PSG’s sporting director Leonardo who is clear he’d rather Mbappe stay for an extra season and leave for nothing than to sell him cheaply.

Mbappe is enjoying another brilliant season at the Parc des Princes – having scored 29 goals in 32 games across all competitions before the campaign was halted due to Covid-19.
