Premier League top scorers – who is leading the race for the Golden Boot

The race for the Golden Boot resumes this week now the Premier League’s three-month enforced break is over.

The award, won by the player(s) who scores the most goals in a single league season has been around since the first Premier League season in 1992/93.

Teddy Sheringham – then at Nottingham Forest – emerged victorious that season with 22 goals.

Since then another 22 players have won the Golden Boot, with the prize being shared on four occasions.

Last season, three players – Arsenal ’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Liverpool due Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah – ended the season as the league’s top scorers, with 22 goals each.

All three are in the running again this season, however all of them trail Leicester ’s Jamie Vardy, who tops the scoring charts with nine games to go (10 for Arsenal, Manchester City, Sheffield United and Aston Villa).
