Newcastle takeover takes twist as Roma make Saudi Arabia Crown Prince contact

Roma have contacted Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss a possible takeover of the club despite his interest in Newcastle.

Amanda Staveley's consortium are facing further delays in their £300m bid to buy the Magpies from Mike Ashley.

And the Serie A club have made enquiries with the Saudis as progress at St.James' Park stagnates.

Roma owner James Pallotta has hired Goldman Sachs to find a buyer for his club and is aware of the situation at Newcastle.

The delay in acquiring the Premier League club comes despite signed papers being lodged at Companies House five weeks ago, reports the Daily Star.

Italian reports claim that Pallotta is not trying to hijack any deal and does expect the takeover of Newcastle to go through.

Talks have previously been held with the Crown Prince and, should things not materialise in the north east, want to know whether their interest still exists.

It is no secret that the Saudi Royal Family are looking to involve themselves in European football.

Pallotta has long been trying to sell Roma – a club who are regularly in European competition.
