Moussa Dembele’s Man Utd transfer stance after Lyon star stuns Man City

Moussa Dembele hit the headlines as he stunned Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Former Celtic striker Dembele was left on the bench against the Premier League side but made his time on the pitch count with a quick-fire double to dump City out of the competition.

It was a stunning impact from Dembele – and one which would have almost certainly made Manchester United sit up and take note.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the striker for a number of months with the Manchester Evening News reporting earlier this summer that he was under consideration as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes another striker.

And it was claimed that Dembele himself would find it hard to turn down the Red Devils having been impressed by the prospect of potentially playing for the club.

Dembele, 23, ticks plenty of boxes for United as the ideal age in their recruitment model.

He would also count as a homegrown player having come through the ranks at Fulham before impressing at Celtic then heading to France.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Dembele, who has scored 24 goals this season in all competitions.

Despite their Champions League run, Lyon’s seventh placed finish in Ligue 1 means they are set to miss out on European football next season for the first time since 1997.

President Jean-Michel Aulas admitted in May that could lead to stars such as Dembele departing, although the coronavirus pandemic and its financial implications could limit the number of parties willing and able to splash the cash.

"I am going to do everything to keep the players," the Lyon chief told Le Progres in France.

"But players who are programmed to play in Europe could want to go elsewhere because we don't have European football."
