Mourinho urges Everton chiefs to stick with Ancelotti to win silverware

Jose Mourinho believes Carlo Ancelotti will land silverware for Everton if the Italian is given time.

Ancelotti, appointed in December 2019, has the Merseyside club above Spurs and just three points off the Premier League ’s top four with two games in hand.

The 61-year-old, one of just three bosses to have won a hat-trick of Champions Leagues, has raised Everton ’s profile, transformed star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and has two of his former players – Allan and James Rodriguez – providing a big influence on the current Toffees side.

Mourinho, whose Spurs stars have had three defeats in their last four, said: “Carlo is Carlo.

“He doesn’t go to a club to spend some time or to have some fun."

Speaking ahead of tomorrow night's FA Cup Fifth Round tie at Goodison Park, Mourinho added: “He goes to a club to try to be Carlo. A winner.

"He is one of the best managers in the world and just by arriving he brings to the club that ambition.

“You can see the players they have got, they will progress. They will go in the direction of having some players Carlo knows very well – players with great quality and great experience at the highest level.

“They have other players who are improving a lot and Carlo, with time, he will win.

“I am not saying Everton can jump over the top clubs with incredible histories. It is not an easy process of course.

“But with Carlo and with patience and with time and with continuous development of the team, there is nobody better than Carlo to give a trophy to Everton.”
