Monaco and Benfica are plotting a potential transfer swoop for Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen target Demarai Gray.

Gray’s contract with Leicester expires at the end of the season, meaning he can now listen to offers from clubs outside the Premier League.

However, Leicester currently want around £1.8m to sell their out of favour winger – who has been with the Foxes since 2016.

However, Monaco and Benfica are both registered their interest in the Leicester forward

Crystal Palace are said to be leading the transfer race, having held talks with with Gray’s representatives regarding a potential deal.

Bringing a striker to Selhurst Park has been top of Roy Hodgson’ priorities during the January transfer market.

He has signed French forward Jean-Philippe Mateta on an 18-month loan from Mainz but is keen to bolster his attack further.

Hodgson will, however, have to fend off interest from both Monaco and Benfica after they expressed their interest in the striker – according to The Guardian.

The former England Under-21 forward is set to decide his future later this week – choosing between Crystal Palace, Bayer Leverkusen, Monaco and Benfica.

Gray will be keen to push a deal over the line before the transfer window closes, having only played 18 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Gray is a product of Birmingham’s academy but has spent the majority of his career at Leicester.

Gray has played 169 times for Leicester since joining the club in 2016, but has been restricted to just two first-team appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season.

Those came during the club’s Carabao Cup defeat by Arsenal and their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on December 28.

Other than that, the 24-year-old winger has featured primarily for Leicester’s Under-23 side.

Gray was, however, part of the team that famously clinched the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season – featuring 12 times during that campaign.
