Mo Salah filmed partying at brother’s wedding days before positive Covid-19 test

Liverpool have suffered another blow after the Egyptian Football Association confirmed Mohamed Salah had tested positive for coronavirus.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has endured a miserable week.

First he saw Trent Alexander-Arnold ruled out for four weeks with the calf injury suffered against Manchester City on Sunday.

Then Joe Gomez suffered a ruptured patella in England training, meaning he is unlikely to play again this season.

Now top scorer Salah has added to the Reds' woes.

Egypt's governing body said that a medical swab taken from the 28-year-old came back positive for Covid-19, but said the player was not suffering from any symptoms.

The EFA said Salah was now isolating, and that he would be “subject to more checks in the coming hours”.

"Our international star was subjected to the medical protocol after the coordination of the national team doctor, Dr. Mohamed Abu Alala, with his English club Liverpool," the Egypt FA added.

However, after posting the original update on social media shortly after 3pm, the Egyptian FA deleted it less than an hour later.

A new statement put out in its place subsequently declared: "The laboratories of the Ministry of Health have indicated that three players from the Egyptian and Togo teams have tested positive before the match between the two teams tomorrow.

"Other tests will be conducted for the aforementioned players to determine their position on participation."

Salah's positive test is likely to lead to questions, after he attended the wedding of his brother, Nasr, earlier this week.

Salah, who scored in Sunday's 1-1 draw with City, left the Liverpool squad's coronavirus 'bubble' to travel to Egypt for their Africa Cup of Nations qualification double header against Togo.

But he attended the wedding in Cairo before linking up with the international side.

He was pictured and filmed without a face mask or socially distancing, with footage posted on social media showed him dancing with other guests.

His Egypt teammate Mahmoud Trezeguet, who plays for Aston Villa, was also in attendance, but his test came back negative.

It's been an extremely interesting start to the season for Jurgen Klopp's men.

They got their title defence off to a shaky start as they edged out a seven-goal thriller against Leeds, before going on to conceded seven in a hammering by Aston Villa.

Virgil van Dijk's season was ended by injury in the 2-2 draw at Everton, leaving the title favourites looking far less secure at the back – especially with Alisson's injury worries too.

But there's no slowing down in what is going to be a busy campaign – with Klopp ensuring his men continue at full pace as they bid for more title glory.

Salah can be seen in some footage wearing a mask as he dances. However, there is other footage of him not wearing one also.

In September, Egypt allowed weddings to be held in open-air-venues – that followed months of banning them in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The government announced that these would be capped at a maximum of 300 invitees – with these only being able to take place in tourist and hotel facilities that obtained health and safety certificates.

Liverpool are next in action on November 21, when they meet Leicester City at Anfield.

Salah's participation will be in doubt for the fixture against Brendan Rodgers' men, as it's understood that he must self-isolate in his homeland for at least seven days.

However, if he is forced to undergo a full 14 day isolation, then he will miss both that match and the Champions League return against Atalanta.

Liverpool are yet to comment on the news.
